Laser Engraver and SOSET Typeset

SOSET Typeset offers unique and special options for all laser engravers.

Customizing Laser-specifications.
For all products in the product-table, there is a printset or category specified in the field PrintsetID. These specifications can be defined in the Printset-table. The browse Printset-table option in the NamoSys-program enables you to specify the settings for laser engraving of your products. In the Printset table you can view and set the preferences per printset.

The laser version of the SOSET Typeset software includes preset product-categories. There is no need to modify these settings, they are already well-defined and adapted to your high standards. Contact your laser engraver agent or NamoSoft customer-service to experience more about the latest modifications in the laser-settings.

In the SOSET Typeset Laser Gold version it is possible to select Laser Settings. This means: high quality laser engraving with the best of both SOSET and laser technology and expertise. The Laser Settings offer highest possible precision, you can expect from laser cutting and engraving.

How to modify settings for laser engraving in the NamoSys Browse:
In the NamoSys > File menu > Browse option you select the Printset-table. Here you can set and modify Laser-Settings for the laser engraver. The information you fill up in the different fields, will determine the settings for the laser engraver.

Check the Lasercutting field if you want laser engraving for the product-group, this also initiates automatic calculation of the cutting-paths. If you want the cutting-paths calculated around the text, you check the Contourcutting-field. If you want cutting along the size of the product make sure this field is unmarked.

The Fixed Positioning-option should be used with care. This option enables you to overrule PageWizard positioning, if you choose to unmark this field. Fixed position checked will start lay-out-positioning of products of the intended group on the StartX and StartY position with a DeltaX and DeltaY distance between each product.
This means that with the Start fields you determine the XY-coordinate or the starting-point of the page-layout. With the value for Start X and Start Y you enter the start position (X,Y) of the engraving (from the upper left of the page).
With the Delta fields you define the distance between the various products on the page. With the value for Delta X you set the horizontal whitespace between the stamps to engrave. With the value for Delta Y you set the vertical whitespace between the stamps to engrave.

With the Unprintable Margin option you set the distance to the borders of your lay-out. The size of the separator refers to the spacing of stamps on a page. The Mold-option enables you to set and specify the use of a mold in a specific size (enter width and height of the mold). Print Title and Print Mold will print PageWizard information and a border. Center the mold on page by marking Center mold.

You can check the Cropmarks option.
To get these cropmarks on paper you need to specify the mold-size (smaller than you paper-size otherwise the cropmarks will be outside of the paper!) in the Mold-section of this dialog.
Check Use Mold, Print Mold, Cropmarks boxes.
Advanced cropmarks is for printing purposes.
Cropmarks are only printed when you run Corrected stamps in PageWizard.

Further you can set the Cutdistance to your preferences.

The Laser Settings field in the NamoSys Browse-option Printset-table offers special settings for the M&R laser engraver. You can view and set the preferences per printset. In the SOSET Laser Gold version it is possible to select Laser Settings. This means: High quality laser engraving with the best of both SOSET and laser technology and expertise.

The Laser Settings offer highest possible precision, you can expect from laser cutting and engraving. Also in special circumstances (for instance in case of certain technical problems), you are advised to use the Laser Settings.

Both laser settings offer default settings.

In the Laserport-field you specify the port to which the laser engraver is connected. Use the defaults: Rubber, Seals, Microporous, Signs for manufacturer settings. In the Product-type area you select the product to indicate what kind of engraving you want: Stamp, Seal or Sign.

Selecting Stamp will automatically engrave in negative and mirrored. Selecting Seal with automatically engrave both die and counter for the embossing seal stamp.

During the Get corrected stamps run in the File-option in PageWizard the program automatically doubles the inserted information in case of seals: one for the dies and one for the counters. Each seal is shown twice on the page. The counter is always being displayed on the right side of the page (to you). The die is shown on the left of the page. You can move a seal, but you cannot change the fact, that the counter is always positioned to the right of the die.

Selecting Sign will automatically engrave in a non-mirrored, positive way.

The laser engraver can engrave in a specific area, this is called Raster Engraving in the Laser Settings in the NamoSys Browse-option Printset-table. To cut out the area, the laser engraver can go from one point to another point while burning through the material. This is called Vector Engraving.

For both options you can set the Power and the Speed. Be advised to decrease the speed if you want deeper cutting.

The Pulse-setting will leave bits of the cut parts to the sheet, to enable cleaning.

In order to make perfect shoulders for the stamps you want to make on the laser engraver, you can specify the number of steps or shoulders (1-25 steps possible) in the Max. Distance field of the Distance-Power section. For each shoulder you can select one of the 12 Power- Levels Raster Engraving.

For the raster-engraving you can modify the shoulder-engraving.

The Laser engraver button on the toolbar in SOSET Typeset:
The laser engraver button is only accessible in the laser engraver version of the SOSET Typeset software. Clicking this button will activate the laser engraver for immediate engraving of the current design.

The laser engrave-option in the Record-menu:
Important: -This option is only available in the laser engraver version of the SOSET Typeset software.- Make sure that the laser engraver and its exhaust are installed correctly and ready to engrave stamps, signs or seals. -Power-, speed- and shoulder-settings are specified in the PrintSet-database-table and can be adjusted per product-category in the Browse table-option of the NamoSys-program.- Several settings are automatically defined during the SOSET setup, but a check and test is strongly recommended.

In the appearing Engrave position dialog you can enter the X- and Y-coordinate (upper left = 0,0). The laser will start at this position with the engraving of the current design.

You will then get the SuperShoulder driver screen, which gives actual stamp data and informs you about the laser engraving process.

Designs with the Seal-property (Seal = T (true)) selected in the NamoSys Browse-option Printset-table will result in the engraving of both die and counter in the same run.
Note: The entered quantity does not affect this procedure at all, as this option will engrave the product only once. To engrave the desired quantity you need to start laser engraving from within the PageWizard program.

The Lasercut option in the Edit menu:
The lasercut option is developed especially to enable precise lasercutting. See Lasercutting in the Edit-menu for more information.

The specifications for lasercutting lines are set in the laser information section of the Local Preferences from the File menu. If the lasercutting flag of this product or printgroup is set to True, SOSET Typeset will prompt you to generate the cutting lines as soon as you update the stamp information.

Per graphical object you can set the Lasercutting Color on or off.
Note: The lines calculated by these special laser-options can be edited in a similar way as all drawing objects in a stamp-design.

Note: For cutting during laser engraving on some flatbed-laser engravers the color-setting in PageWizard must be the same as the cutting color setting in Typeset.
